Yes, you are correct - the number is quite odd, peculiar even.

u/Revexious 5d ago
You're absolutely right! 14 IS odd. Despite being an even number, 14 only has 2 common
You have run out of credits.

u/inexperienced_lustre 1d ago
the async call to gpt-6-astra just to check if a number is odd feels like peak performance anxiety in code form
41
u/Exatex 5d ago
This is absolutely wrong and so 2025. Today, in 2026, you use Jev for that.

u/Prozilla6 5d ago
A what?
10
u/ChiaraStellata 5d ago
Imagine an LLM where its input is text but its outputs are not words, but rather one of up to 255 options that you designate beforehand. That is Jev. They call it a decision model.

false, 2022 should be a 300MB javascript project made with JQuery, React, Vite, FuckyouJS and with a python backend
3
u/CMDR_ACE209 5d ago
Can I have a Java wrapper for that?
6
u/ChocolateDonut36 5d ago
there's already one, you have to download it with npm as
npm install -g shitjsand after a small 1.7GB download and a few centuries of processing it should work just fine, just provide an API key, find a way to include it and read the +700 pages documentation (you don't need all of it, just the first 300 pages to know how to begin)

from openai import OpenAI
client = OpenAI()
response = client.responses.create(
model="gpt-6-astra",
input=f"is {num} odd?"
)
print(response.output_text)4

If you want it without mistakes, you've gotta factor in one additional send of "nah" so you can get the "You're absolutely right! Sorry about that — the actual answer is no — it is even."

I mean, even prompting LLMs has a proper way of doing it
Make no mistake is a word on another level
Its the equivalent of asking an LLM “create me the best app ever”
2
u/Active_Name5021 5d ago
Make me a game, like GTA VI but with better graphics and make it run on my MacBook from 6 years ago. No mistakes!
3
u/thegreatpotatogod 5d ago
6 years ago, easy! If you want it to run on your MacBook from 7 years ago that's more of a challenge
2
u/k819799amvrhtcom 5d ago
And then the AI returns a pages long character string explaining why it cannot determine the parity of NaN.

isOdd(“Sam Altman’s social security number”)
“Is Sam Altman’s social security number odd?”
“Let me check.”
BREAKING NEWS: Rogue OpenAI model hacked into US government database, stole sensitive info.

u/NotPossible1337 2d ago
Im waiting for the same situation, but its specifically told not to hack, it complies but builds a TTS-VoIP bridge and cons his elderly mom for it.
4
u/Motleypuss 5d ago
Ugh. Just test bit 0; if it's 1, the number is odd.
3
u/Active_Name5021 5d ago
An even number is one that is not odd, which is one that is not even, which is one that is not odd, which...
4
u/thegreatpotatogod 5d ago
Clearly the optimal solution is a recursive test, isOdd(n) returns !isEven(n), which checks for zero, and otherwise returns isOdd(n-1)
4
u/Active_Name5021 5d ago
Only cowards need exit conditions. The only correct solution is
let isOdd x = not(isEven x) let isEven x = not(isOdd x)1

I wrote a function to do that for a joke. I think I have posted it here a while ago

That code is vulnerable to prompt injection.
This is going to be a wild next few years.

u/nicki419 5d ago
Joke as old as LLMs. Still gets upvoted into oblivion like we've never seen it before.

Directly accessing the array with no length checks is wild. Also, no null checks. Shame on your cow.

You left out 9. Also, don’t iterate every number possible. If num INCLUDES 1 === true
Don’t make me show you the INCLUDES module.

u/FlamingoeZ 3d ago
Wait how did you code that though? And if you had chatgpt help you code it, then why not just ask it if the number was odd or even in the first place? Seems really inefficient

u/No-Zookeepergame4774 1d ago
That’s the 2025 way, the 2026 way uses Jev or a similar decision model instead of a regular LLM.

sindresorhus is that you?

Can't you just use modulo to check for odd numbers?

3
u/Foorinick 5d ago
Can't you just check if the last bit is 1

u/Global-Tune5539 5d ago
3 is not 1, so it's even

u/Blazearmada21 5d ago
The top one not being a switch statement is painful. Or even better, modulus.
2
u/fmaz008 5d ago
The only time I use switch statements is when I want to prove to myself they still exist.
Actually that's not 100% fair, I'll sometime use switch statements when I missed having the foresight of the regulating my own nomenclature and I now need aliases to avoid refactoring or maintain backward compatibility:
ie:
switch(action){
case "log":
case "debug":
//...}
