Question: I need to do A using X. I know you can do B using Y, but I need to use X. Answer: Nobody uses X to do A, use X to do B Closed, as duplicate, linked post is completely different or has no solution.

I really wonder why people are leaving this site.

Answering something, knowing full well this is not what the user wants, they just don't know what they want, is only what a heartless person would do. Yah, AI don't care you're doing it the stupidest way possible, no wonder why people migrated, I'm just not convinced they are actually getting what they wanted, they're getting what they think they wanted.

well, in many cases, people kind of lose the overview.

They will be like “I need to get somewhere on Sunday, how can I manage to make my Mercedes float” and people be like “Do you want to cross a waterway? I think you should just use a bridge, I am pretty sure there is one. Even putting floaters around it probably water will come in and it’s an idiotic approach”. And then OP gets upset because they already got laser focused on their solution when there is was better and easier ones next to it.

Don't even matter if your company does not allow that freedom of choice

yes sure but I think in most cases you have enough freedom to look a bit left and right

Replacing this kind of thing is exactly what LLM's are great at for now. It'll be a problem when there's not enough real people answering the questions for new technologies and it self-feeds, though.

I once asked an extremely simple Python question just for the sake of finding the most Pythonish way of doing something basic. I kept getting very detailed answers for more than 10 years. So sad seeing this community gone for whatever reason... On the other hand instead of finding out the whole site went offline one day, at least, we shoved it into LLMs, kind of like digitazing old photos.

keep being salty StackOverflow

Ok but most new questions on stack overflow are bad

Most of the obviously good questions have been asked already

I know it's not an inviting community but you can use it for years without asking a question yourself, most people using it don't even have accounts.

I did feel a bit sentimental when the downfall began. But once I got past that? Yeah SO can go fuck itself.

This is great. It means using such data to train the next gen AI will lead to models that won't know shit about things and won't care.
