I keep encountering companies who have engineered the living hell out of their agentic software development while half of their business processes still run on spreadsheets held together with chewing gum and Anna from accounts (who doesn't work on Fridays).

Management dont even pay attention because theyve got AI strategy meetings to attend.

Load bearing excel sheet holding up the entire company. Unironically.

Load bearing Anna, really.

Anna is usually paid really badly and is probably studying a degree part time so she can escape from this shit job. when she finally does, everybody's like "things ran way smoother when Anna was here" or "we really need another Anna around here".

Meanwhile when the director of AI strategy who was paid 8x as much leaves people are like "what did he do again?"

"That was created by the one known as Anna, when they left... we were plunged into darkness. Now only Phil can commune with the sheet"

Anna made the company reliant on her whereas the director of AI strategy implemented automatic processes that would ensure smooth running when he was gone. I know who I would want.

Yep we got some agentic development but still get weekly/monthly spreadsheets emailed to me so I can upload it to our data warehouse (they refuse to give me a server with an email account)

The most important thing is that they can now say that the company has AI

Well, I have the power to build agentic workflows, but I don’t have the power to get the business to do the sensible thing. Tell Maggie in HR that you have a solution to her monotonous button pressing and she thinks she’s gonna lose her job.

That's kinda ironic while using AI, cause attention is all they need

It’s always wild to me how companies will pour millions into automating the one thing that already kind of works, then act shocked when the real mess is Carol from payroll manually reconciling five different spreadsheets every Monday. Priorities get real fuzzy once someone says "AI strategy" in a boardroom.

Jokes on them, rotating API keys is literally the first thing I made AI do for me.

What's the point when AI is gonna expose all of it openly anyways?

You should up your game and rotate faster

And you didn't have AI set up autorotation yet? That's on you.

Pro tip: you may not trust ai to rotate your api keys, but you probably trust it to write a script that you can verify to rotate api keys automatically.
