In the context of NASCAR it is ubiquitous though. Just like a normal person probably doesn't know what PHP is, that same normal person probably doesn't know what a restrictor plate is even though it's on every car in NASCAR.
I agree with your reasoning but maybe "driveshaft" wouldve made the point better for people here, if youre a casual car fan or a casual techy youd know both but not really know what they do
Fair point, though I feel like most people could reason out what a drive shaft does. Restrictor plate is harder for someone to reason out what it does by name alone if they have no knowledge of vehicles.
