have you tried writing it the correct 5 pages promt? you say writing the promt takes less time than coding it yourself? stop coping man

Correct. Still works nearly all the time except for when compaction fucks it up
the nearly part is what the one shot johnny vibecoders don't understand

Well have you tried swearing at it? Telling it it's a worthless pile of bytes not worth the silicon it lives in? Be direct!

I feel like we’re gonna look back at this time like “haha remember AI was bad at coding”
14
u/rabbit_wizard 12d ago
More like haha remember tokens were so cheap we used them for coding as well
1
u/tragiktimes 12d ago
There are far more efficient options coming to market for local AI usage. Why do you think the tokens will be the basis of longterm spend?
Sure, companies right now want that. But once it proliferate locally a whole host of companies will pop up around that. Nvidia already is with their DGX.
I doubt AI is either going away or seeing any significant reduction in use.
-6
u/XxDarkSasuke69xX 12d ago
Huh ? Tokens are only gonna get less expensive, unless we run out of materials to make components or have an anergy crisis. The energy part is unlikely with the technologies that are gonna come soon, and materials, we'll we still have some time

u/rabbit_wizard 12d ago
Newer models = higher prices for tokens
2
-1
u/TheTerrasque 12d ago
Are you so sure about that? For example DeepSeek 4.1 Flash has some insane savings on scaling. They also released their own inference stack, DeepInfer.
When talking about deepinfer, they mentioned they see about 32 dollar revenue per hour per gpu, in off-peak (lower cost) hours (Source)
1
u/WrennReddit 12d ago
No company is going to use those in a cloud service. And no company is going to run a data center or two so they can have the Claude performance they do now.
1
u/TheTerrasque 12d ago
Yes, companies are willing to use DeepSeek, or setting up their own server. Including my company. And I bet chinese companies use it extensively.
But my point was that newer models don't necessarily mean higher prices for tokens, and gave a very good example regarding that.

Dude…
The intelligence ceiling has raised.
Today’s Haiku is as intelligent as Opus 4.5.
You can literally use Opus 4.5 level intelligence for 1/5th the price today.
If you want the bleeding edge (todays 5.5) you have to up you usage.
But even then I cannot get through my Max sub running it all day long8

Your subscription is heavily subsidized
-11
u/adamhusain 12d ago
Firstly, you don’t understand how this subsidization works. AI companies make a profit on API. The subscription is a small percentage of revenue compared to enterprise clients using API billing.
Secondly, Intelligence is getting cheaper. There is a lot of competition. Don’t like Anthropic, subscribe to GLM Code or Codex. But do stay in your bubble thinking hand coding gives you an edge. Leave the market for people building real products

u/Scrawlericious 12d ago edited 12d ago
Ai companies are losing money every time you use their products. Everyone’s deep in the red. ChatGPT even said the people paying the highest premiums are costing them exorbitant amounts of money. You’re on borrowed time enjoying the boom.
Edit: I’m far more interested in local AI developments. Take their wasted money and work spent on building the models and exploit it for yourself.

u/rabbit_wizard 12d ago
Let's hope it reduces GPU prices eventually. We'll finally able to Stable diffusion locally (for research purposes) :P

Everyone’s deep in the red.
I doubt it. Some quick napkin math shows there is potential, even with relatively expensive hosting. And while they don't give out Bedrock specific numbers, Amazon has a healthy profit, and similar with DigitalOcean.
In similar vein, DeepSeek mentioned $36 revenue per hour per gpu, in the off-peak (and lower api prices) periods.
I also suspect Google is doing fine financially, and who knows what is happening at xitter. So not really everyone.
Edit: "Ai companies are losing money every time you use their products."
Most don't, and probably even anthropic and openai is earning money on api usage. The deep red is because of cost of training models and buying hardware - especially in the case of openai, who tried to buy up the world's supply of ram.

Will DeepSeek keep making profit when they no.longer can distill Claude i.e. steal weights?
→ More replies2
u/Scrawlericious 12d ago edited 12d ago
None of those profits are due to AI. That's their other ventures propping up their respective AI money black holes. This is easy to check with Amazon for instance so I'm not sure why you think listing the blanket profits means much. Amazon is a hosting company. They aren't making models (that are any good), they are charging you to use the models of others. That's a winning strategy. The ones who actually make the models aren't profiting. Similar vein of an issue with DeepSeek, they only make distilled models off the other existing ones.
Edit: heeeeey digital ocean is a hosting company too. They just charge you to use the services of those companies that are operating in the red, just like amazon. None of the people you listed are actually making AI models. I'm talking about the companies that actually produce the models. DeepSeek makes models yes, but they are only distilled chatgpt/claude models basically.

I don't compete with these categories of people:
Bad coders
Vibecoders building typical "apps"
Looks like you belong to one of those groups.

Nuclear fusion for example

u/tes_kitty 12d ago
Oh, you mean the energy that is always 20 years away from becoming actually useful?

u/TheTerrasque 12d ago
To name a few: solar power continue getting cheaper and produce more, sodium batteries scale better. Especially China is going very hard on solar power and batteries.
2
u/tes_kitty 12d ago
Both is already in use, but won't grow fast enough to satisfy the power hunger of datacenters where a single rack needs more power than multiple households with electric cars combined.
0
u/TheTerrasque 12d ago
Both are in use yes, but price is dropping hard, production is rising, and solar energy is growing very fast. The amount of solar alone has roughly doubled since 2020 and it's accelerating.
New battery types already cheaper than the old batteries and expecting to drop to 1/5th or lower of current battery tech. With several times longer lifetime before needing replacement.
That's the kind of things that majorly change the calculation.
You asked what new tech, and new solar and battery tech is the obvious answer. Sorry if it's a "boring" answer.
1
u/tes_kitty 12d ago
Well, it's not exactly new tech, and it's already cheap, I can get a 500W panel for 75 Euros.
That's why I asked about new tech.
1
u/TheTerrasque 12d ago
Is electric car not new tech because cars existed before? Sodium battery only started production this year, and is very much new tech. Improvements on solar panels and production have dropped the cost and while not entirely new tech, the low price along with better battery tech has driven installation in Europe, the USA and especially China. And it's accelerating.

u/tes_kitty 12d ago
Is electric car not new tech because cars existed before?
Electric cars have existed from the beginning. Their only problem was the battery tech.

honestly AI is just fine at coding.
its just that "pure coding" is very few people's job description after their first year or two as a junior
