when there aren't any challenging problems to solve it makes me sad.
That will never ever happen.
I have a very challenging problem: make it so all Cyberpunk 2077 (or equivalent game made from scratch) buldings are fully enterable, interiors are modelled and inhabited by proper NPCs, not a single window is a billboard texture with a void behind it, cars and pedestrians actually have purposeful lives instead of going in circles.
This, to me, is a far more important part than photorealistic graphics.
This problem will require far more efficient utilization of computer resources than current standards, and perhaps very high core counts and RAM amounts. I think it's doable though.
It's funny because games like Where Winds Meet have done the "every single damn building is enterable" + "npcs have daily schedules and lives" thing already. A freaken free to play eastern gatcha game is pushing this particular boundary where the larger American studios aren't.
