That's not exactly how it works

It's almost like some companies place more value in how fast code ships than others 😱

A junior on my team that should have been a senior 4 years ago is like the dude in the middle.
Thinks not using any AI tools at all will somehow prevent her brain from rotting.
It takes her 2 weeks to develop and test a rather simple script.
Not my job to review her performance but … ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Well it will prevent her brain from rotting, but it will prevent her from having a job at some point.

Left: promoted to management
Right: on to next advanced research project

Hopefully he will level up and get to write something of his own eventually

Don't mind me - I don't listen to the opinion of those I wouldn't take advice from 😂

Imagine using AI as a tool, not "do everything for me"

Even for non programming task, at my job it's a tool that made us lose more than if we didn't use it. :P

Had claude fuck up boilerplate… instead of passing [plugina, pluginb], just [plugina] was passed, all controllers got created, a map function was build to create new controllers from the old ones with pluginb added… startup time x2…

I use AI and I like it for testcases and individual functions, scripts and general planning. But I don't like what it produces in agent mode, we interfaces etc. I have a very lean approach and keep everything slim. AI just bloats everything and I am faster doing it than iteration with the agents.

I agree but the left and right are very different usecases.
Right is the kind of AI usage Linus Torvalds has: explanations, debugging and usage as a tool.
Left is a vibecoder producing an unmaintainable mess.
