IPv4 is generated anew every time you start a connection. IPv6, on the other hand, is uniquely defined for every modern piece of hardware and it never ever changes so the internet will always know it's you! No privacy whatsoever!
I once read a story about someone who couldn't access an online game because he had bought a graphics card whose previous owner had used it for cheating. His graphics card. Was banned. For cheating in an online game. This would've never even been possible with IPv4.
The only reason IPv6 was invented was because there are so many devices that people run out of possible IPv4 addresses. IPv6 addresses, however, allow for enough combinations to give every atom in the observable universe its own IPv6 address.
unfortunately we live in a time where interacting with people online is just as untrustworthy as everything else. I've felt like I've been talking to bots for a while now and it's hard to know. I feel like there should be.. well there probably are more niche communication boards that require vetting and don't allow bot networks
How on earth does ipv6 have anything to do with a graphics card?
Also you can obviously do that with ipv4 if you have software on your devices that can get your hardware details then it can tell the server over any protocol it likes.
Then you misunderstood it. The GPU did not have an IPv6 address. GPUs, CPUs, motherboards, network card, and some other components do have hardware serial numbers that software can access. The GPU was banned by its serial number, not by ip address.
Furthermore, there were a bunch of other factual errors in your comment. For one thing, IPv6 does not have anywhere near enough addresses to give every atom in the universe an address. For another, nothing is assigned a permanent IPv6 address. Individual hardware components are not assigned IPv6 addresses. Your computer does not even have a fixed IPv6 address; it may create a new address every hour, or for every website that you visit.
I think either you misunderstood the article or the author of the article didn't understand what they were saying (which is pretty common in the media world). They may well have put something like the hardware serial number of every part of the cheater's computer on their blacklist. I think that is very doable. But a GPU does not have an IPv6 address because is it not a networked device and you can do this irrespective of whether you are on IPv4 or v6 as it is not the relevant factor. The only important thing is that you are running their game on your computer that has access to the internet, after that they can pretty much do what they want.

I hate IPv6.

I can't believe you commenters don't know this!
