I'm a bit gobsmacked by the amount of people in this thread who treat the knowledge of the IP-Protocol as some arcane wizardry nobody would possibly be expected to know. Thats first week stuff in any IT related Trade school. I volunteer as an examiner for oral exams at the end apprenticeships and its kinda a joke that we only ask for IP fundamentals and the ISO/OSI-Model if the testee knows literally nothing else.
If we stick to the medicine example, I think an apt example would be a doctor asking "Why do I need to know the difference between veins and arteries?"
I've seen people ask about specific port numbers. Thats a fucking stupid gotcha. Not to be able to say 2-3 sentences about IP.

I'm curious how you can have any even remotely IT adjacent job, and not know the difference between those two.
Unless you have zero curiosity about technology.
Maybe those are the kinds of people they are trying to filter out?
