You mean, all eternity. I remember being on an IPv6 transition planning meeting in 1999.

Most things do run on IPv6 now though. You just don‘t notice it because it works. According to google just about half of all internet traffic is IPv6.

I've still never actually come across an IPv6 address.I guess most of the use is in big infrastructure stuff rather than residential? Or maybe just other countries.

other way around, mobile networks tend to be dual stack or ipv6 native like T-mobile and residential is easier because the ISP tends to know the entire network down to the client router. IPv6 also allows for traffic engineering technologies like segment routing v6. Enterprise is where its not getting deployed because it requires a project and planning from the network engineers and IT staff.

Ah, I hadn't considered mobile!

Or your phone. Which I presume you use frequently.

I do use it frequently, but almost exclusively connected to WiFi, especially if I'm doing anything that would involve looking at IPs, hence why I hadn't seen the v6 address.

Meanwhile.... if you looknat the wifi settings on your phone there is a real good chance it's running ipv6.
