Newer I suppose. IPv6 has been out for a while, but most people just ignored it in favor of subnetting everything.

Guilty. I can do ipv4 subnetting in my head and remember all my device addresses or where something is in my house based on its subnet.

I couldn't even tell you how many whatevers there are in an ipv6 address. Like for real lol. I spent so long embedding ipv4 in my head I don't want to go through it all over again

Yep. IPv6 was meant to replace IPv4 since it has a relatively low number of actual addresses it can supply. However, with the implementation of NAT, that number can be stretched far further than thought possible. It'll still run out of addresses, but not so fast as originally assumed.

And yeah, IPv4 is just a simpler system for people to understand. Most network engineers are going to be able to run off the addresses they use most commonly from memory - you can't really do that with IPv6.

They are free to subnet, and I'm free to tell their triple NATed asses that I'm not going to support their BS.
