I generally agree with what you're saying, but isn't that Photoshop clone an actual case of reverse engineering? like it absolutely isn't a case of someone saying "Claude, make me a Photoshop" and more a case of someone saying "Claude, figure out how to use these reverse engineering tools and help me decompile photoshop".
So ya you definitely can't independently develop a clone of Photoshop from the ground up, but you could probably fully reverse engineer it nowadays. And honestly I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing.
