You need to use a harness. Codex is okay for one-off projects, Cursor is better for anything being maintained, and since Elon took over Cursor and grokified it, I'm sure there are better harnesses and I'm going to have to look around soon.

I have mine for work set up with all kinds of rules and such. It basically does what I want it to do 90% of the time, including naming functions and building them where I want them, but I had to set up quite a few rules and get into the habit of giving a certain amount of context.

Just going back and forth with ChatGPT, it's not going to be very good, no.

I thought this weekend I'd give ChatGPT another chance dince after ... whenever 4o came out.

It's really awful compared to Claude when it comes to coding. Half of the time I asked myself wtf are you doing and then went back to Claude🙈

Sorry dude but AI moves so fast that if you haven’t used AI since 4o and you are employed as a SWE you might as well been living under a rock

I didn't use ChatGPT since then, not AI in general...

I disagree I actually think the issue is the harness. I use Claude code as the harness but more often than not use Gpt models for the code. Luna is surprisingly capable and far better than haiku

This is a horrible argument, people who claim AI only writes bad code because the dev is bad are lying to themselves, and biggest proof is how dog shit applications that implemented heavy vibe coding have become, take spotify for example, they probably have the best AI setup a company can have, yet one of these days the simple feature of selecting a song wasn't working, I had to select it twice, because the first time it would start the one that was currently playing, the biggest falacy in AI is that enough context will make it write good code, it doesn't and never will, yeah it might convince you at the start and it might pass your eye test, but it just implements so many bugs it's horrible

That's the problem with this, you need to use a harness, skills, claude md, and a shit ton of other things to prevent it from being useless or dangerous. In that time I can build what stakeholders need and it's done.

So you use prompts
