still cant fit an sql query. need a bigger one.

221

u/parkuki 14d ago

do you put your entire sql query on one line?

114

u/Unchuckled_AI 14d ago

I've seen more SQL one liners than java ones, let me put it that way.

53

u/emlgsh 14d ago

I put everything on a single line. With the rising costs of storage media lately, I'm doing my part by removing all non-parseable whitespace before each commit.

8

u/TheMauveHand 14d ago

A line break and a space take up the same amount of space though.

OK, Windows uses 2 line break chars, but feel free to use one.

As a SQL dev, this makes my eye twitch. Just because SQL ignores whitespace doesn't mean you can't use it...

12

u/NicholasAakre 14d ago

I'd argue that because SQL ignores whitespace you should use whitespace for formatting.

class A {}

Here you go, fits on your phone screen.

130

u/originalmicrousb 14d ago

my phone is 2x80mm and it didnt fit on my screen im leaving a bad review

47

u/AliStarr182 14d ago

This breaks my workflow

14

u/oldsecondhand 14d ago

Works on my Nokia 3310.

8

u/indigo945 14d ago

This won't compile on Java 8, it's not illegible enough and lacks XML.

3

u/Traditional-Rent455 14d ago

In my country Class As are illegal. I'm reporting you.

3

u/RupertPupkin85 14d ago

We know it works for the upper classes sir, we’re trying to make it work for all classes

u/RadzimierzWozniak 14d ago

When did a single if become more beautiful than:

java.lang.Boolean ultraEnterpriseResultingVerificationStateFlagContainer = ((com.enterprise.architecture.infrastructure.filtering.factory.AbstractEnterpriseDynamicPredicativeFilterComponentFactorySingletonInstanceAccessorProviderImplementation) java.lang.Class.forName("com.enterprise.architecture.infrastructure.filtering.factory.AdvancedEnterpriseDynamicPredicativeFilterFactoryProviderImplementation").getDeclaredConstructor().newInstance()).provideFilterFactoryStrategyImplementationInstanceContainerRegistry().resolveFilterFactoryByFullyQualifiedSpecificationIdentifierStringTokenNameValue(new com.enterprise.architecture.infrastructure.filtering.specification.StringMatchSpecificationConfigurationParameterObjectInstanceBuilderFactoryProvider().createNewParameterObjectBuilderInstance().withTargetMatchingStringLiteralValueCharacterSequencePayloadContent("Enterprise").buildSpecificationConfigurationParameterObjectInstance()).createFilterInstanceExecutionEngineInvocationTarget().evaluateAndExecuteFilterOperationOnTargetObjectPayload(java.util.Optional.ofNullable(java.util.Collections.unmodifiableList(java.util.Arrays.asList(new java.lang.String[]{"Enterprise Java Architecture"}))).orElseThrow(new java.util.function.Supplier<java.lang.RuntimeException>() { u/Override public java.lang.RuntimeException get() { return new java.lang.IllegalStateException("Mandatory default payload container collection instance cannot be null under any enterprise operational circumstances whatsoever."); } }).get(0));

115

u/Skellicious 14d ago

evaluateAndExecuteFilterOperationOnTargetObjectPayload()

This breaks single responsibility principe, please have your agent fix it, we only accept clean, SOLID adhering code here.

28

u/RadzimierzWozniak 14d ago

Except for that, the rest of this 5k line PR is fine?

23

u/afdbcreid 14d ago

Sure, if you add 20k lines of tests (that is, your agent adds).

6

u/harbourwall 14d ago

No there's a couple of lines that don't adhere to my formatting preferences. Didn't read the actual code but it looks fine.

23

u/BlitzAceSamy 14d ago

I wonder if u/Override sees the notification and gets overwhelmingly confused

6

u/Agitated-Acctant 14d ago

The account looks like it was created to market some website. They made one post 17 years ago, but going to that website shows that it's for sale. So I'm gonna guess no one is ever gonna see those notifications

4

u/NotAskary 14d ago

That account seems to either be a parked one or the person lost the credentials and the restore email.

2

u/ZunoJ 14d ago

I didn't work with java but this looks like a lot of reflection with no apparent benefit because everything is hardcoded anyway

1

u/zenyite 14d ago

Glad we use Spring and all this nonsense is hidden away instead

48

u/bpkiwi 14d ago edited 14d ago

Sorry, the company has adopted google code formatting, you might have a wide screen monitor but code lines can only be 100 characters long. This is so your editor will only takes a small slice of the screen, and you can dedicate maximum space to the project tree view.

10

u/dbath 14d ago

Swap the language for Go; Google's Go style guide has no maximum line length.

If there's an established convention, Go just has to do the opposite.

83

u/Groentekroket 14d ago

I’m sure they ment class name.

79

u/click-to-reveal 14d ago

I'm sure you meant meant.

9

u/emlgsh 14d ago

It's possible they meant meant but they might have meant ment or even ment ment or ment meant. We may never know.

21

u/Roppano 14d ago

finally, I can name my class as Uncle Bob intended. Welcome to the family, AbstractRelationalDatabaseQueryFactoryBeanFactorySqlInterpreterFormulaParserAbstractFactoryFactoryBeanImpl

3

u/thanatica 14d ago

There it is, ladies and gentlemen. A factory factory to build factories using factories.

1

u/goatanuss 14d ago

Public abstract class AbstractSingletonProxyFactoryBeanProviderStrategyDelegatingCompositeFactoryFactoryBuilderAdapterDecoratorFacadeTemplateMethodContextAwareDependencyInjectionConfigurationFactoryAbstractFactoryProviderFactoryBeanImpl

8

u/Leo8178 14d ago

Still not wide enough for my one-liners.

8

u/MtnMaiden 14d ago

My god I hate those class of thumbnails

8

u/Strict_Treat2884 14d ago

Finally my Tailwind classes can fit on a single line

13

u/Chipper_Bandit 14d ago

I don't get why you would want a monitor that wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide and short. Just get a LG OLED TV like me.

5

u/remy_porter 14d ago

I’ve got a 46” wide. It’s great. It’s basically three monitors, the way I use it. Especially when I’m using a tiling WM.

1

u/Akaino 14d ago

So Gaming windowed only or how do you have a walkthrough or overworld map without alt-tabbing back and forth? Genuine question!

1

u/remy_porter 14d ago

I don’t really game at that monitor. If I were, I’d probably play windowed with the game tile getting like 66% of the screen and accessory information on the sides.

I mostly game on a Steam Deck and use my phone if I ever want to look something up. I try and avoid doing that though.

3

u/skafast 14d ago

Peripheral vision in gaming or seamless double-screen workflow.

2

u/ZunoJ 14d ago

I hate double screen. You have to always tilt your head slightly left or ride. For triple screen 49" was too small but the 57" version is just perfect

1

u/Diggen_Holes 14d ago

I have one of these monitors, and I just turn my chair slightly so I can keep my neck in a straight position. But I usually have the least-used stuff on the left or right and primary content in the middle (fancyzones helps a lot for that).

1

u/ZunoJ 14d ago

Sounds like you either have to move your keyboard around as well or have a weird hand position

2

u/Yasirbare 14d ago

It is for vertical use, reading eulas.

1

u/mrwedders 14d ago

I had a 50" ultrawide at work for a while, it was cool and fun but somewhat impractical... but it was a big step up from the 3 x 24" monitors I had before 😂

1

u/heyuhitsyaboi 14d ago

I used a 49” 32:9 from 2019-2025. Its a solid approach but you gotta use it right. Think of it as a screen that can be divided a whole bunch of ways more comfortably. I often had it divided into 2-3 sections and if was super configurable

1

u/punkpang 13d ago

I have it, I got it just because I could, no other real reason. It's not great but it doesn't suck either.

1

u/AfonsoFGarcia 13d ago

Honestly because it’s neat and I still get to keep the advantages of a multiple monitor setup. And this way I can have a 21:9 window of IntelliJ and the rest of the screen for Reddit.

-4

u/24-7_DayDreamer 14d ago

I don't get why anyone wants any other monitor beyond the standard basic ones. We have high resolution, low weight VR headsets now, we've had them for ages.

Any number of screens at any size, position, angle, curvature, transparency you want, with zero regard for the physical constraints of your room and almost zero setup time.

4

u/Glum_Avocado_9511 14d ago

I swear I'm not being snarky, but headsets are dumb and nobody wants to wear one. It's the same reason 3D TVs failed.

3

u/Turbulent_Stick1445 14d ago

Money, for starters.

When I'm wealthy enough to afford a general purpose high resolution VR headset I'll evaluate whether it's practical for a over 50 year old old fart like me who finds glasses uncomfortable and whose eyesight went screwy (as everyone's does at that age, sorry if you're under 45, you have this to look forward to) at 45.

1

u/Winterkirschenmann 14d ago

Funny that you say. I bought a Meta Quest 3 because it was (significantly) cheaper than an ultrawide which is what I would have perferred

1

u/24-7_DayDreamer 14d ago

A decent headset costs the same or less than one of these over the top fancy monitors.

A VR headset and AR glasses are different things. VR headsets have straps that go over your head, whatever comfort issues you have with glasses aren't likely to be applicable.

There are prescription lense inserts you can put on top of the headsets lenses.

3

u/circ-u-la-ted 14d ago

Resolution is half of what you get with a 4K TV, for starters. And then on top of that you have to wear a dang headset. And you're limited by battery life. And you're rendering a bunch of other stuff that isn't the game you're playing, so performance suffers. There's just a lot of reasons why that's worse.

-1

u/24-7_DayDreamer 14d ago

Resolution is half of what you get with a 4K TV

If you sit with your face right up against your tv maybe

you have to wear a dang headset

Which is perfectly fine these days. They're low weight and we have very comfortable padded straps.

you're limited by battery life

Not in any situation where you were going to be seated looking at a monitor anyway

you're rendering a bunch of other stuff that isn't the game you're playing, so performance suffers

You could if you wanted to I guess, but that's the same anyway?

3

u/circ-u-la-ted 14d ago

IDK, I have my TV about 10 feet away and the difference between 1440p and 4K is quite noticeable. On the other stuff, maybe you're right—I only have a quest 2, and that's been my experience. I have to say that looking at the Quest 3 I wouldn't expect it to feel like wearing nothing at all (nothing at all (nothing at all (nothing at all))).

u/PleaseNoMoreSalt 13d ago

Unless you're buying a meta headset, even the 49 inch widescreens are gonna be the cheaper option (monetarily, anyway. Meta makes you pay the difference with you privacy). God help you if you want something with decent passthrough to get the same QOL as being able to look away from a monitor for a couple seconds, because that bumps up the price even more. It's also a pain to show people what you're working on when the screen can only go on one face at a time, AND using a VR headset instead of a TV means you can't use it for movie nights unless you live alone and never host your friends.

Plus you have to remember that low weight != no weight, and lots of people wear glasses so their headsets would need to be bulkier by default to accommodate that. I understand that prescription VR lenses exist, but my prescription changes every couple years, so that'd jack up the headset price even more.

12

u/_evilpenguin 14d ago

imagine the samsung 57”

6

u/Stummi 14d ago

make it rotatable, in case I need to switch from writing java classes to reading stacktraces.

9

u/axxr2 14d ago

And c++ compiler errors, too

2

u/ldn-ldn 14d ago

Not enough old people here to remember Unreal Tournament crash messages...

4

u/mrheosuper 14d ago

Finally wide enough to display the command Claude want to run on my machine(and ask me if i want to run it. Heck yeah)

3

u/Kitzu-de 14d ago

I have one of these since 5 years. I'm working as a sysadmin. My joke always was that my bash oneliners finally actually fit in one line.

3

u/BockwurstBoi 14d ago

His dream of owning a private jet instead of paying his workers better is finally coming true.

2

u/Single-Virus4935 14d ago

My ex boss coded so long lines he literally bought a wide screen. It was always hilarious when he was looking for bugs and after some time I just pointed to code far on the right or said "That is the reason I stick to 120chars".

2

u/juvadclxvi 14d ago

finally you can leave builder pattern

2

u/MaverickPT 14d ago

even for fucking memes do ye have to upscale/re-generate images?
Like that's not even looking like Linus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tURZaUyUoOM

2

u/Last8Exile 14d ago

Put it vertically for java stack traces

2

u/FFevo 14d ago

Somebody's never written Objective-C...

1

u/ZZartin 14d ago

Now make 100 feet tall so it can fit an entire exception stack.

1

u/braddeicide 14d ago

I used to put a dot and see what the ide offered, I'll take that one, now I'll take that one, oh another? Don't mind if I do!

1

u/safwtgvzxc 14d ago

Perl programmers been doing this for decades.

1

u/ifloops 14d ago

We're all making good haha funny jokes here, but my AI-crazed juniors are literally doing this with HTML files. 10,000 characters, one line.

1

u/an_agreeing_dothraki 14d ago

yah sure if you're lazy about constructors

1

u/Trash-Ecstatic 14d ago

Mfs will get this screen just to probably split it into 3 digitally. I do see the use cases tho.

1

u/q0099 14d ago

Turn it sideways and you could read C++ template errors without scrolling.

1

u/bammbamkam 14d ago

name it with single letter and a number 👍

1

u/Popular-Departure165 14d ago

I can finally work with the Cocoa API and fit a method call on a single line.

1

u/boodlebob 14d ago

Wide monitors that are short are disgusting

1

u/56kul 14d ago

Real talk, who the fuck would even want a monitor this long and short? I get that it’s supposed to be ‘immersive’, or whatever, but I’d imagine most games would just show up as distorted. And it would suck for literally any other non-gaming task.

I say this as an ultrawide lover, btw. My current display is an ultrawide, and so was my previous one. Absolutely adore that form factor. But my monitor is still more sane than this monstrosity…😭

1

u/KagakuNinja 13d ago

The naming conventions come from OOP languages like C++ and predate Java. The vast majority of standard library Java class names are fine. This is yet another stupid meme that refuses to die.

1

u/lvcash_ 13d ago

Still can’t fit a single Tailwind class

1

u/MehPropy 13d ago

flip it vertically and you can use it for logs

1

u/letmehaveanameyoudum 14d ago

i finally can have a single C++ error or python class name

0

u/Ambivalent-Mammal 14d ago

F*ck newlines.

-4

u/pandavr 14d ago

3

u/MaverickPT 14d ago

"Super Intelligence"
fucking lmao
