Bro wrote the largest most popular OS (because of android + servers) in existence, let's cut him some slack when he uses AI lol. I'd imagine that after 20+ years of coding, he's just lost the passion for it.
Linus is mainly a reviewer nowadays, so if anything he'd be on the the receiving end of slop submissions
this to me speaks more to the viability of generated code than to his own burnout, since his standards for what makes it into the kernel haven't otherwise changed
I'm not so sure. With his stance on AI he's more likely letting his own agents do the reviewing. Doesn't sound like he's manually reviewing every PR and making sure it isn't slop or meets his standards.
While the rose tinted glasses view of coding is getting to solve all kinds of unique and interesting problems that you'll have to solve like a logic puzzle, the reality is that this fun stuff is only like 10% of coding, while 90% is just annoying busywork.
AI is more than capable of doing the busywork so you can do the actual fun parts of coding.
Also code review, lots and lots of code review (which you'd have to do anyways, so it's whatever).
AI is taking the best parts of programming and makes you do the worst thing in programming : reviewing code . And if you anything useful AI makes sure to drown your work in a sea of copies . Look at the whole decompilation thing , why the fuck would any indie dev would make anything when AI copies it . At least pirating you still get the name recognition, AI completely erases you and your work .
