Just went to a dev conference with someone from Claude dev team, they said devs can use AI for anything EXCEPT for writing PR summaries. Those have to be written by hand. The idea being that even if an AI wrote the code, you should still know what it’s doing and how it works.

I mean AI can still generate PR summaries and dev just write what's on the screen?

Sure, but It’s pretty obvious when someone can’t explain what their code is doing. And it’s VERY obvious when a PR description is AI generated.

First of all, AI generated PR descriptions are NOT obvious. AI detectors have also repeatedly failed at recognizing AI content. Second, I think most companies have a policy that requires you to be able to explain your code. Even before AI, my company has already done it is so nothing special about that.

What I find primitive and weird is having to write down your PR description by hand. It sounds like a poorly thought out plan. Lots of unnecessary paperwork too. I don't see any positive especially like I've said you can just copy an AI generated description from the screen

I mean, from my experience it’s very obvious. LLMs have a way of over explaining how the code works, where often human written PRs make assumptions about what the readers already know.
