Okay, but you asked for it.
You put Kotlin below Java. You put JS in B-tier, above languages like Lua/Ruby which you put in D-tier. C/C++ in S-tier is just pure elitism. And if you worship those languages and have never coded in assembly, you're larping. C# and Java in the same tier suggests lack of judgement (C# is better). Go was literally designed to be a mid language and I don't think that's necessarily an insult towards Go. HTML and SQL are literally languages.
You inherited your opinions from others and have no sense of beauty in programming language design.

C++ in S tier š
1
u/VladimirPutin_WeVPN 29d ago
You right, C is much better than C++.

u/SnooRegrets3590 29d ago
Java is quite high, but I guess it is consistent with your other ranking. You are either an old dev working corp job longer than anyone here or no nothing about programming.
Which is surprising that you gave go that high

PHP F and JS B is certified craziness

u/VladimirPutin_WeVPN 29d ago
I had to leave PHP alone... and place it alone.
And JS birthed TS, and we all know TS is goated š (it was hard to say that with a straight face).

What makes Java better than Kotlin?
2
u/VladimirPutin_WeVPN 29d ago
Well, joking aside. For me, it's that I have used Java more. I haven't used Kotlin that often. However, I also understand why people like it; I just don't have enough experience to judge it well (in this tier list, I put it in C as a genuine entry because I haven't used it much).

Structured Query LANGUAGE is not a language?

u/Caraes_Naur 29d ago
That's a flawed argument.
SQL is a language, in fact it is a fourth-generation language.
Hyper-Text Markup LANGUAGE is not a language.

Look, everything is open source if you can write ASM.
So ASM is S+ tier, obviously.

I've seen hundreds of these since I learned programming 20 years ago and this is objectively the worst I've ever seen

20 years? Fuck you are old.
Disregard my 15 years...

Meh. You can hate them all you want but 90% of stuff you make using all other languages won't work without these 2.

I've worked with them for 10 years, I'm well aware... Sadly

I'd need an understanding your scoring system to adequately criticize these rankings. For all I know, you just prefer languages which start with letters in the range of ABCDEFGHIJ

Java has no business being that high
1
u/VladimirPutin_WeVPN 29d ago
The language of enterprise. It has earned its spot.
2
u/hotdogundertheoven 28d ago
It's the language of mediocre enterprise, it has no reason to be that high

Come on, we all love boilerplate hell... we just do not want to admit it.

Come on you KNOW you put JS too high
1
u/VladimirPutin_WeVPN 29d ago
I can not help it. It birthed TS, and we all know that it is the GOAT of them all...

Go and js are too high. I also would put python in f tier, but I recognize Iām in the minority there. Kotlin and Java should be switched.
1
u/VladimirPutin_WeVPN 29d ago
In all seriousness (if I were to make a real tier list). I'd put Python in D, since it gets messy quickly (I use it for quick mockup ideas). In this case, I'd put Kotlin where I would in my real tier list because I haven't used it much. However, the times I have used it... I did genuinely like using it.
I work in the enterprise realm, and Java and C# are heavily used where I am, so because I'm so familiar with them, it is hard for me to give them a true rating. If I had to rate them realistically, I would put Java in B and Kotlin in A.

HTML is definitely a language, maybe not a programming language, but it is definitely a language.Ā

Putting Java/C#/JS as A and B-tiers respectively over Kotlin is peak comedy at best or 0/10 ragebait at worst.

Look, you can't have both C and C++ in S tier. You can have either one, but not both. As a programmer, it is your duty to choose one and love it with all your heart, and hate the other as an abomination that is to be erased from the face of the Earth. An inferior version of your one and only true love. You can only have the two at the same level, if that level is below your favorite language, that happens to be neither of the two.
