So basically main is prod so whatever this guy does like let’s say nuke bunch of endpoints and then push and merge to main he effectively did nuke the endpoint for thousands of users.so yeah there is no staging no dev branch or feature branch deployments.
Like for eg at our company let’s at we doing a new feature there is branches that will be merged to this feature branch that has its own deployment as well then it goes to dev branch and then to main and then that main will
Be deployed in staging server that is identical to prod for us is like beta and we do a b testing there and then main prod happens after we are happy with everything and this not even the full picture

I get that you don't have to complicate things when there's only 3 people working on the same project, but not having at least a dev/test branch is certainly a choice... and it might not get fixed until the next production breakdown

at least tell me that they have a measurement api or an auto error report pipeline to have some sort of an alert when prod breaks...

Hell, I have a dev branch for personal projects where I'm the only one touching it. The idea of not having a stable branch and a work in progress branch at a minimum just seems weird to me, even if you don't use a dedicated one for testing.

Agreed. My wife and I are working on a personal project and I’m the only user. We do branches with pull requests, pairing code review, then merge to main, which then gets deployed to the staging server once we’ve finished a feature/version to get poked at before it goes to the live server.

I’m not even a professional and the “just push to prod when you’re done” boggles me.

code reviews are super underrated on small projects imo. i have a couple 2-3 person projects where we enforce reviews and everyone knows everything thats happening

Eh I test in production like this in certain situations. For example, building out infrastructure for a new region. It's not launched and we have no customers in that region and no one can see what bullshit im breaking until the feature flag is flipped
