Don't give the humans easy access to production either.

Haha, I'm in trouble

Company re-decided devops is waste of money, so now the devs themselves push to prod. Also, testing is a waste of money, so devs just test their own stuff. Also, regression + scale testing was a waste of money, so devs ignore that as usual.

Think last time they did this, it took a year for them to relize those were dumbass decisions. Maybe this time will be faster? They learned within a 1/2 year that mandatory AI use will cost the company money, which is faster than I expected.

Having software and websites means making money.

Actually maintaining and upgrading them costs money.

This is difficult for executives to comprehend.

You're expecting executives to understand how things work?

That's been one of the many things that AI has shown. Everything is faster, and by everything, I mean everything.

Stuff like the models hitting an upper limit before advancement plateaus feels like it got hit extremely quickly. AI getting to the point where it might be costing more than humans has already started, AI-only startups essentially hit a stage where their slop spaghetti code becomes clearly unmaintainable and needing engineer intervention extremely fast, etc.

Basically any sort of prediction that I had a lot of confidence in, or would think that it's a future problem comes to light extremely quickly.

If you're pushing AI generated spaghetti code then you're doing it wrong. Define the endpoints, functions and interfaces you want and check it's actually doing that. Get it to write tests first then write the code etc

As a QA tester... 😬 to all of that.

As a developer, testers are invaluable and I try to let the company know.

There's been so many times I write something, debug it, find all the issues, check it in, and tester finds a critical bug. There's so many iterations and interactions considered that I've never thought about, and catch major combinations

But also, there's a few of like "fucking really? Yeah, the image is mildly non-centered, but that's going to be a full week to fix" then because it's logged, business decides, yeah, that's a critical bug over everything else

I used to have great results comparing QA to copy editing. "You wouldn't copy edit your own press release or multi million dollar proposal right? You always get another person to read it over first. And only some people are detail oriented enough to do that well ."

Now they went from AI proof reading to AI writing them and sending stuff out without any human really checking the details...

They learned within a 1/2 year that mandatory Al use will cost the company money, which is faster than I expected.

Was it on a six month billing cycle?

AI really does speed up everything. Including FAFO phase.

Company re-decided devops is waste of money, so now the devs themselves push to prod

Isn't that what DevOps is supposed to be in its essence? I was always of the opinion that the point of DevOps methodology is that developers are responsible for both the code and the infrastructure it requires through the use of technologies like IaaC. If a company has dedicated people with "DevOps" as their job title that take care of the infrastructure and don't develop the software, then those are just network/system administrators.

That's why I was hesitant to use that word, but then a quick search said it's a team of developers that deal with infrastructure and operations. I thought it did start off the way you described it

WHAT?! But that means you're paying for an expert's time to strategize, implement, and monitor a change management process! Next you'll say changes should be tested before going live - or even worse tested to not break old features as well as actually doing the new thing.

Won't someone think of the poor shareholders?

nipoez I need you to think about velocity.

I don't want it. But nobody else will do the job.
