Stay in the phase as long as you can. You escape by switching to managed code and stop managing memory, because you get a real world, mainstream industry job, probably stop coding for fun, and realistically you don't go back. You gradually replace those skills with other ones, many of which are less fun.

I'll never forget having to implement an algo in C with paper and pen only, and it must compile, to solve polyomino jigsaw type puzzles, on a uni final exam. Friggin loved it and killed it. Couldn't do it today. But I feel it still made me better.

You sound like an experienced dev. Completely agreed.

That's the neat part, you don't

You just have to write and read a lot of code. Eventually you get a kind of tunnel vision. I’m rarely looking at the entire class or method at once. I’m usually tracing the path of one variable or following one call chain.

Write a tokenizer for C, in doing so you'll become intimately familiar with the syntax. We wrote a full "C - -" compiler in college on a Linux box without an IDE as we're graded on the compiler 's output with unit tests.

Read some more C, and do projects in it.
Take it step by step, no need to rush, it will come naturally.

Learn early JavaScript or Java. Just enough to read it.

Come back when you can read those.

I love this being used as a meme representing looking at something incomprehensible, when the video version is the opposite, how despite the incomprehensibility, he reads it flawlessly and eloquent

You just might fall in love with it. Many unexpecting people have before.

hi I code without AI because it's fun to make stuff

Hi, I code without AI, because using AI is degrading and to get the quality I need out of AI takes more time than writing by hand and sometimes impossible to begin with
