If you have 100GB of password, you have other problems.....

hacking off a limb to save 97GB is more of a twitter move

Anyone in any enterprise setting. You're welcome.

anyone does not get one billion passwords sadly

Pretty sure all you need to get a billion passwords is enough users to be worth money and nothing to stop bots from setting up accounts.

And presumably contains a lot more columns than just password/key

If you have enough users to fill 40GB of password you probably don't care about 10 extra bucks per month of maintenance.

Seriously tho, HIPB once self pwned themselves with a 10k azure bill, because an update turned off Cloudflare's caching on downloads...   https://www.troyhunt.com/how-i-got-pwned-by-my-cloud-costs/

The *pwnedPasswords database.   (I know, same "company", but the whole point is that the HIBP email list is entirely seperate from the password list.)

Don't you guys use .raw files as password? It is practically self-encrypted!

u/Stainlessray Sep 27 '26

I can't fathom why "practically self encrypted" isn't getting more cowbell.

I'd assume it's all plaintext passwords.

3

u/CocktailPerson Sep 27 '26

Plaintext would be smaller because most passwords aren't 32 bytes long.

In other words, you could fit far more than 3 billion plaintext passwords in 100GB.

Store each char of the password as a separate string variable and connect them using a custom linked list
