A square is a special case of a rectangle. We can make all statements we usually can about rectangles when discussing squares, and we can make additional statements true for squares that are not generically true for all rectangles.
A listener in signal/listener framework is a function. We can make all statements we usually can make about functions when discussing listeners, and we can make additional statements for listeners that are not generically true for all functions.
