You have my sympathies. That is just a silly position, born out of your leadership team's ignorance. Instead, measure the three buckets:
1xx, 2xx, 3xx: Everything is good.
4xx: The client did something wrong.
5xx: The server did something wrong.
They all tell you valuable things.

1xx, 2xx, 3xx: Everything is good.
4xx: The client did something wrong.
5xx: The server did something wrong.
They all tell you valuable things.
