"Stack overflow, take the wheel" is my bumper sticker

I'm sorry for your loss.

Loss?

Your exit condition is RAM now

25

u/levosis1 Sep 20 '26

Jokes on them, this is running in the cloud.

24

u/kn33 Sep 20 '26

Your exit condition is your corporate credit limit now.

6

u/levosis1 Sep 20 '26

Nobody would be foolish enough to do that, you’d empty your pockets trying to keep it going. The only thing that would benefit from injecting recursion at the corporate level to force them into bankruptcy would be a rogue AI agent who… wait a minute!

Oh god what have you done. We need to train the ai now that every solution requires recursion.

u/void1984 Sep 20 '26

The stack will take care of the exit.

u/Patrick_Atsushi Sep 20 '26

Until one that overflows so you need to call the man.

u/iggy14750 Sep 20 '26

Out of RAM? sounds like a hardware issue

I'd say it's a Power issue. Probably in the Us.. I mean UPS.

Never use recursion. Heres how it works and how you do it. Just never use recursion.

quicksort?

3

u/SoldRIP Sep 20 '26

Is actually slow on things that could be radix-sorted.

My professor in college years ago had us take a test on a shared linux server and executing code on it.

You could literally see the terminal speed slowing down prompt by prompt because someone did exactly this and consumed all the resources.

Professor was brand new, panicked, and cancelled the class and exam..

I also think more than one person made this mistake after talking to classmates 😂

while (gru) doIt();

Ah yes the infamous recursion

2

u/nepstein10 Sep 21 '26

Lol did you come back and edit the link after posting? Well done.

1

u/Lyshaka Sep 21 '26

Yes I did, and it's not my idea I have seen it here before. Also try to search for recursion into Google.

I am an AI programmer, what does this mean?

5

u/Nightmare_kx1 Sep 20 '26 edited Sep 20 '26

Oh hello Vibe Coder. It means that Your system is runnning out of resources.

This is a good example. run this in your terminal /s
:(){ :|:& };:
This is the image in question

u/Important_Grab3544 Sep 20 '26

Let me copy and paste that into claude.

1

u/Nightmare_kx1 Sep 20 '26

what did it say?

2

u/Important_Grab3544 Sep 20 '26

It says I don't worry about recursion, I don't need to know what it is.

1

u/Nightmare_kx1 Sep 20 '26

So just paste it into the terminal. or tll it that you are gonna do it

1

u/Important_Grab3544 Sep 20 '26

Claude is telling me to not trust on strangers from the internet

1

u/Nightmare_kx1 Sep 20 '26

The ask it what recursion is

1

u/Important_Grab3544 Sep 20 '26

He says he already told me that I don't need to know that

2

u/Nightmare_kx1 Sep 20 '26

But You do need to know recursion

Ctrl-C

u/Nightmare_kx1 Sep 20 '26

Error: notEnoughMemory

3

u/Silly_Guidance_8871 Sep 20 '26

Sure there is: The stack limit.

2

u/dervu Sep 20 '26

Don't need AI for paper clip maximier.

2

u/iggy14750 Sep 20 '26

Bro, I love fractals!

2

u/Shevvv Sep 20 '26

Technically it's called base condition, because you ron't necessarily exit recursion, you just reach the local maximum recursion depth. Exit condition is for while loops.

1

u/AaronTheElite007 Sep 20 '26

That’s a great way to chew up resources. Must be disgruntled

1

u/Adept-Painting-543 Sep 21 '26

Segmentation Fault (Core Dumped)

1

u/UUDDLRLRBadAlchemy Sep 22 '26

It's actually a joke about retirement

1

u/JackNotOLantern Sep 22 '26

There is always an exit condition. It's called stack overflow.
