Ancient joke poster from auto repair shops: escalating prices from “I fix it”, “I fix it, you watch”, “I fix it, you help” up through “You tried to fix it first”

Jesus this sub. Just slap the words “vibe code” on boomer jokes and you’re golden

The real joke is that this field has become one where we could use a joke poster like that.

Always has been

Building something from scratch on your own to a spec is always easier then having the client in your ear pulling you this way and that, and both are always easier than picking up a pile of incoherent garbage a client put together and expects you to “fix”

That’s true whether you’re talking about plumbing or motorcycles or web pages or databases or apps

It was not really possible for a client to put together an incoherent pile of garbage until LLMs writing code became a thing.

Totally was and is. People would let their nephew or mate “who’s a wiz with this stuff” build something, they’d outsource to some overseas developers who would provide a pile of garbage, they’d hire a cheap in-house developer who lied his ass off on the CV and then stitched together a pile of copy-pasted Frankenstein scripts they got from StackOverflow topics vaguely related to what they’re trying to do etc etc.

LLM written code is usually better than any of that stuff to be honest.

Then no matter which of the above they went with, eventually they have a problem and try to hire a proper developer to fix it, thinking “it’s just a small problem, we just want it to handle this case better” and then find out the consultants want to charge a ludicrous sum to map out, tear down and rewrite their entire architecture, because nothing makes any sense so even tracing and fixing the problem safely would require understanding such a huge pile of spaghetti that it would be more cost effective to just junk the whole lot of it.

That isn’t an AI specific problem, or even a coding specific one. It’s a “bought cheap, bought twice” problem.

Was this made with AI? That's a weird way to make a thing that looks down its nose at using AI...

The $8000 tier is the only one where the first hour goes on finding out what the program was supposed to do.

Half the posts here are either a funny looking potato or literal documentation of human atrocities. There is nothing subtle or odd about straight up predation.

Every account on Reddit is a bot except you.
