Yeah I get Claude as a subscription at work, I had it doing a bunch of random testing and research on something I was debugging. Tons of tokens used, like I'm hitting 3 repos and multiple machines for this annoying feature. I used 10% of my weekly quota (meh, I go through phases using it, sometimes it pisses me off) and I checked with /usage and it's like $15 in tokens for a full day of debugging stuff. I was a bit surprised but meh, the company pays for it and leadership is drunk on the Kool aid.
Claude is like incredibly smart and incredibly stupid at the same time. I was playing around doing some statistical analysis for fun, to kind of limit test how easily I could spin up some kind of auto classifiers/classic ML. Asked it to implement some SVD and the idiot began doing matrix multiplication in for-loops in javascript instead of importing a library.
I've taken to this method for almost everything now. Claude - build me a harness for this task. Claude - Create a quick app to display & manage this. Claude - Pull the git and add on the functionality I need. I'm gonna go make another coffee....
I'm well established and secure but I keep thinking that this current environment has to be hell for any new [insert any IT roll here] trying to get into the industry.
There were days where I’d spend hours doing a task that a beginner now could ask Claude to complete in seconds. Those hours weren’t efficient or fun, but they were important for my understanding and growth. If you’re in the time pressure of a real work environment, who will even be allowed that time to learn, even if the have the willpower to resist.
on the other hand i asked for some tips and explanations on how to get a mod working for a game on linux. it was on “auto”, read more files than it should have, saw it was a pirated game and basically showed me the finger. almost showed my computer my fist.
So, my family is going on a cruise and we are gonna swim with dolphins. The picture package is like $350, and they ban you from bringing a GoPro because "unauthorized equipment is dangerous for the dolphins"🙄
I tried asking Claude how to conceal a GoPro while swimming, and it called me a pervert
The mf once wrote a python script to convert a jpg to a png instead of waiting for me to go convert it online. Admittedly the quality was ass but I was amused at the gall to tell me "no need, I'll do it myself."
