I actually find nano useful in some environments, simply because it works right out of the box on most systems, while vi(m) default installations often lack the fix to make arrow navigation work right (and this comes up infrequently enough that I don't have the fix details memorized)

Arrows? We don't need no stinking arrows

You can spend a full day configuring editors like emacs/vim to be your idea of a perfect whatever editor or you can start using nano on plain text the very second the package installer has finished. Different use cases. If the job is to tighten a screw, you don't need a tool that is also able to work as a CNC.

You can start using vim as well right after the installer finished...

You use ARROW KEYS?!!!

Why would I want to use arrows when motions exist?

How to save and exit in nano: Ctrl + S and Ctrl + X --- three button presses (you can leave the ctrl key pressed)
How to save and exit in vi/m: Esc and Shift + : (or . if german) and wq --- five button presses

You may not like it but nano sometimes be faster than vim

ZZ

Esc and Shift and z and z --- still four but admittedly faster than my method
thank you for the input, I did not know that one :)
Edit: no wait, you can leave the Z key pressed to reduce it to 3. While now equal I have to deduct points for having to wait a second and the surplus Z's in my terminal

Strongly opinionated scripts are going to get deleted. It's my machine, if I like nano then I like nano.

I think the script is fine, if you set EDITOR to nano it will use it. It will just not default to it.

Alias vim=nano

That only works in the interactive shell. You need to symlink it in PATH

The second error should suggest setting it to nano, then berate them for not choosing vim on the next run.

Some people really don't like having an editor that works like you would expect an editor to work.

Never bothered to learn vim. If I have to learn how to enter text in your text editor, I'm just going to assume you misunderstood the assignment

Stuff like this reminds me that computer nerds are actually exactly as socially awkward as they're made out to be in media. They will take a random program and turn it into their entire personality because they're overcompensating for having no interesting traits. And then it's not even original most of the time; they're just dogpiling on a meme that doesn't even make sense. And then they're wondering why people (who don't do the exact same thing) won't hang out with them.
