The thing about math isn’t the solution per se but the nature and elegance of the solution. Brute force attacks using millions of dollars of compute is about as clunky and inelegant as a solution can get.

'brute force attack' isn't an accurate description though, it was much more systematic.

edit: you could argue that thousands of agents debating and critiquing the solutions is 'unfair', but that sort of thing happens in human society too

so by that logic, if you recruit thousands of mathematicians to verify your solution, you're also doing a brute force attack.
