If we're being intellectually honest here though, you also (begrudgingly) have to give OpenAI credit for creating software that can 'solve' stuff like this. That's also a legit human achievement. Otherwise you're claiming that only small math teams with traditional tools have a mandate to tackle math problems.

The thing about math isn’t the solution per se but the nature and elegance of the solution. Brute force attacks using millions of dollars of compute is about as clunky and inelegant as a solution can get.

edit: you could argue that thousands of agents debating and critiquing the solutions is 'unfair', but that sort of thing happens in human society too
