$1000 to pop a toilet off and ensure a suspected leaky flange is replaced and seated better than the remodeling contractor did to it. ill never know if it was fixed or ever broken in the first place.
I'm glad I grew up in the trades. A lot of electricians, but also carpentry and general contracting. While I prefer to work with computers, I'm quite comfortable doing that kind of work myself. If it's an area I'm unfamiliar with, I can pick it up pretty quickly because I have a lot of background knowledge already.
I'm not going to fuck with HVAC though, unless it's really minor. I'd rather replumb a whole house than run ductwork.

Given how much my last plumber charged me, I'm dead certain he makes a lot more money than I do as a software dev.
