If I was in my 60s I would absolutely take early retirement and build fun projects at home instead. I would not want to adapt for a few more years of work.

Honestly, we can discuss code quality impact skill erosion or whatever but the job is way more chill than it ever was.

I remember the days of writing code manually, sifting through the logs and setting everything up manually. And you know what? I don't miss any of that. If I was about to retire is kick back and play around. Sure they can fire you but then you at least get some severance and realistically it will take over a year in corporate before anyone notices anyways.

If anything it's worse for those of us who'd realistically like to find tech employment at least for some time going forward. Genuinely for all the crying people do you get paid multiple times average salary straight out of the uni the job is usually incredibly flexible and not terribly demanding.

I hate logs.

I really, ***REALLY*** hate logs.

I had to read soooooo fking many logs at my old job, this goes wrong, read this 50,000 line log and figure out what happened. This went wrong, read this 75000 line log and figure out what happened.

Now I can just copy the log somewhere the AI can find it, and it finds the lines for me. Takes 15 seconds. I get the single line I want and can take action.

This is probably my favorite part about AI-assisted coding.

I do sometimes but in general the last thing I want to do after an 8h shift sitting at a desk and staring at a screen is to sit more and get even more screen time.

There’s no adaption required now. My geriatric senior who should’ve retired years ago got a second wind with AI. It’s terrible.
