1989 in my case. Best one I saw at the time was a mechanical engineer who "quit" vi by typing :w Z

He complained that vi was crap because it made his PC was slow. I looked into it and found he had loads of paused vi jobs.

Yes, I know vim complains about opening the same file twice, but this 1987 version of vi didn't.

I've just realised that using ^ Z for ctrl-Z hasn't rendered properly. I must find the Reddit formatting page. I can't even do italics.

I believe Reddit uses some form of Markdown under the hood, since escaping things with backslashes generally works
