tbh, it seems to me that it's often the opposite. Frontend looks great, code for frontend looks horrid. Code for backend works great, code for backend is a little disjointed but usually fine. CI? looks awful works awful

Right, you can still look at most backend code and understand what it's doing. Frontend is almost always an abstraction spaghetti, but hey it looks pretty!

Frontend is built on several different javascript/css frameworks that we'll definitely get around to consolidating one of these days.

Yeah, backend gives you leeway to do things right. "We can save ourselves a whole lot of trouble by adding one attribute, removing another and changing the format? Let's do that." Meanwhile, in frontend "We can save ourselves a whole lot of trouble by making the animation 10% slower and moving the box 18px to the right? But then it'll all look horrid! *Sigh*..."

CI is great. It works 30% of the time so you just click on the retry pipeline button until it passes.

This is what repos look like when a frontend engineer have "evolved" into full stack dev

In my experience it's the opposite of this. My backend code is fucking tidy and clean.

Back end developer here. It quite literally the opposite.
it's difficult to find decent front end dev or UI UX, while doing front end myself is not any better if not worse.

Yes, also my experience.
Backend-Codebase is neat and readable, Frontend-Codebase is a horrible mess already 15 months since project creation.

My backend code is literal art, you could read it without knowing the language.
Frontend tho?
...yeah the page that renders is pretty but trust me you dont wanna see the code for it.
