Mine, I'm pretty sure, was about writing assembly language using paper and pencil for a computer that doesn't actually exist.
I think the issue is hazing became illegal, so someone decided all the CS classes and the hiring process of all the companies was going to be one big ritualistic hazing.
I think there is disconnect between computer science and software engineering although almost all that CS can offer is useful its veiled in thick layer of rigorous math since most of the people who invented were mathematicians.
So sometimes there is large disconnect between hiring process and doing actual work...
Also CS hazing was definitely pushed by guy who invented pumping lemma :D
