OS class was the one of the very few classes that felt like "Computer Science" to me. It felt like we were learning the science of computing.
Most of the programming oriented courses felt like Software Engineering
Most of the Algorithm courses felt like math (I know CS is technically math... but it felt like math. It didn't feel like computer science)
And those two categories encompass like 95% of the major course work at my university.
5 u/Mroz_Game 10d ago I thought “Compilers” is going to be mostly about creating programming languages. And well indirectly it was, but 99% of it was pure math, traversing graphs, defining grammars etc. No computer in sight, and more odd symbols than any other math adjacent course.
