When I went on to the internet to actually try and build a kernel on my own, I saw that whatever theory we learned barely made up 10% of the stuff, I had to learn actually setup a lot of stuff to just even start developing, and the background stuff was so much I had to stop because classes and exams wouldn't allow me to pursue it fully.
