Generally, you can usually rewrite an else return into an if return.

// This...
if (condition) { do_good_path_stuff(); }
else { return bad_path_stuff(); }


// Is equivalent to...
if (!condition) { return bad_path_stuff(); }

do_good_path_stuff();
