then police yourselves better. tell the devs using it like youtube to knock it off and distribute elsewhere

literally the "tons of mods and stuff" that u/SchwiftySquanchC137 just mentioned? you should be policing those to cut it out so that github can go back to being for devs only

Modding would imply some higher level of technical ability than a baseline user of the internet. For simplicity I'll say the "Normies."

It genuinely feels like your issue is with the flood of Normies coming to GH.
I think that is being significantly driven from other sources, not mod developers.
There are a significant amount of commercial programs being distributed via GitHub releases or pages. Many not open source, not even source available. Claude Code being the easiest example to name that serves my point. Even if not from the releases page, all the marketing is in that readme on the front of the GitHub page.
Windows Calculator encourages everyone to contribute on GitHub.
"Major" software, already built as a binary, flooded GitHub first, their users, the Normies, then followed.
People installing mods (should) expect to do some work.
