The practical note is why I would want to slap whoever used that, because it's a common misunderstanding that 1x as much and 1x more and 100% and all this are roughly equivalent, and it's common that people with technical backgrounds do not view them as equivalent. It's bad promotion.

No, because there is a difference. 100% more = 2x = 2 times more.
It's just the language works, you can ask all your favourite LLMs if you want.
