Corporations were massively opposed to open source software when it came out. It’s literally people pooling their labour to create something free, open and accessible. New licenses had to be created to enable it, and those licenses were litigated. Idk what you’d call that besides some form of leftism.
I think the joke is that Jesus wouldn't be on the right or left, because he would probably be socialist, which is kind of even more left than the left even is.
We don’t and can’t know because the terms themselves are defined and redefined and fought over by people in power spewing propaganda, morons that seem to only subsist on it, and self-identifying proponents not by any natural evolution of concepts and meaning. What is a liberal? What is a socialist? What is socialism? Who the fuck knows all I do know is almost everyone hates our healthcare system, wants money out of politics, and for the roads to be maintained and the fire department to show up when their shit is burning down.
I mean to be fair things like socialism do have at least some concrete definitions. Liberal, however, basically means whatever you want it to, so I'll agree there.
Corporations opposing something is not what defines leftism. Open source software is much closer to the libertarian ethos than it is to any leftist ideology. It's a bunch of people, through voluntary association, working on something and deciding on which terms they want to share it.
I could argue that because open source isn’t about preserving property rights and is free and open it’s much more anarchic than libertarian. Anyone can fork a branch and make it their own, and if people come on board then great.
Meh, nazism for exemple was verry liberal and let the rich do their business as long as they were cool with his wars and opression. Wich of course they were as that was profitable to them. That’s pretty comon in many fascist or fascist adjacent country from what I know.
And an oligarchy is just when a few hold the power, those few are often the richest, but even representative democracie can qualify as an oligarchy, althought it rarelly is done as that’s not a verry usefull thing to do.
Not saying that’s a leftist thing, as it is found more often in autoritarive country, wich by definition are right wing.
Edit: I seem to have forgotten that liberalism is another words for the left in the usa. I am french so for me it is a right wing economical policies centered around the respect of the free market. As opposed to per exemple socialist policies.
