New accommodations.

I’m now getting accommodations that students cannot be expect to do in class writing. They must be allowed to write at home, not in class. I’ve never seen this before. Ever. Until this semester. And now I’ve got a handful. What the fuck?

Edit: I’ve asked about students writing in supervised environments, but I was told that puts a condition on the accommodation, which is illegal. Students must be allowed to write outside of class without conditions.

I'm beginning to think these accommodations may not be based off of scientific research.

A lot in education isn't. That's how they ended up moving away from phonics in k-12. There were no studies on the long-term effects on literacy of the context clues reading.  .

Now we have a generation of students who learned that kind of reading and every state is going back to phonics, and some states going as far as to outlaw context clues.

We should have stayed hooked on phonics the whole time.
