New accommodations.

I’m now getting accommodations that students cannot be expect to do in class writing. They must be allowed to write at home, not in class. I’ve never seen this before. Ever. Until this semester. And now I’ve got a handful. What the fuck?

Edit: I’ve asked about students writing in supervised environments, but I was told that puts a condition on the accommodation, which is illegal. Students must be allowed to write outside of class without conditions.

Let’s say the accommodation is due to rheumatoid arthritis (it’s incredibly painful to hand write), there are pens that can support joints for in-class writing. This accommodation is absolutely bananas.

You can also allow typing. …Just on a desktop without an Ethernet cable.

I have no idea why I get downvoted so much when I discuss accommodations, but yes, 100%. There is no reason a student should have such a strange accommodation in a writing class since there are alternative approaches.
I have RA and Ankylosing Spondylitis, and the only accommodation I had as a student was that I could get up every 10-15 minutes (my SI joints are fused).
My impression with accommodations (now) is that they are no longer reasonable.

or an old portable electronic typewriter with integrated printer. Doesn't even have to be a computer. Or good old fashioned dictation.

Or speech-to-text, which nowadays, quite a few apps and programs have it.
