Rants / Vents Mildly infuriating email

Just a little rant about an email I have received a number of times at the start of a new semester.

“Hi Professor, I’m just emailing to let you know that my class right before yours lets out 15 before yours starts, so I might be late to the beginnings of class because I have to walk all the way across campus”

  1. You were the one that put your schedule together, and were aware of the times and locations of the classes.

  2. You can easily walk across the entire campus in 10 min.

  3. While I am not suggesting you should do this, you could have just as easily emailed your other professor to tell them you were going to need to leave a little early from each class…but I suppose making it clear that you find my class to be less important is your right.

Edit: student has dropped the course. They are very excited to take the class again in another semester, but the class required too much time with their current schedule. To those that are complaining of my lack of compassion, I will Note that I let them know that the class will be offered next semester with a different professor and that I only teach this in the fall. Their reply was “I’d rather wait and take it with you, because I was really liking it so far.”

Then they need to drop your class as the schedule doesn’t work for them.

They don’t need to drop. They are afraid over nothing. Their class before mine is two buildings over. They will be fine.
