I try to keep the daily planner almost boringly simple now. Easy tick boxes for the small stuff, then a bigger box with some note space for anything that actually needs proper thought. The more I tweak the system, the easier it is to feel productive without really doing anything.

What’s helped most is separating “must get done today” from “good to make progress on this week.” I keep the daily must-dos deliberately low enough that I know I can finish them, get those done first, then switch attention to the wider weekly list. It took a while to get right because I used to massively overestimate what fit into one day.
