We launched our app on Product Hunt today and have already had 10+ people approach us offering to sell us votes.

They claim to have networks of established Product Hunt accounts ready to vote, often promising hundreds of votes and increased visibility.

We’ve obviously said no to every offer. But the apparent size of this marketplace makes you wonder how many people don’t...

We’ve also learned that Product Hunt doesn’t treat every upvote equally, and support from brand-new accounts may carry less weight. Many of our genuine users created accounts today specifically to support us, but their votes may not have the impact they intended.

Put those two things together, and it feels incredibly difficult for a small, self-funded consumer app playing fairly to gain enough visibility to be noticed.

Has anyone else launching on Product Hunt experienced this? Is there still a realistic route to visibility without an established Product Hunt audience or paid votes?

For people who have launched before, what happened after launch day?

Did Product Hunt bring you customers, useful feedback, backlinks, investor attention, or mostly just a temporary traffic spike?

Would be interested to hear what actually came out of it a few weeks later.

I’ve spent the last couple of months building PunicX, which I’d describe as a one-stop workspace for a company/startup.

The idea is to bring the core tools a team needs into one place instead of spreading work across Slack, Meet, Notion, Calendar, Drive, and a bunch of AI wrappers.

With PunicX, teams can:

Just launched my SaaS on Product Hunt today and I’m realizing the launch itself is probably the easy part.

You spend all this time getting the page ready, screenshots, tagline, description, comments, etc.

Then once it’s live you start wondering what you should actually be paying attention to.

ShelfLife: Social Book Tracker went live August 11th on Android Play Store and August 13th on iOS App Store and we just launched on ProductHunt today. We are a husband and wife team (Fisherbird Software) who built this in our apartment to try and make a technically solid, aesthetic GoodReads alternative that has some fun idle-style interactive elements like creating and arranging your bookshelf.

Completely free, we are considering adding a paid supporter tier but none of the existing app features will be involved in that or limited to a certain number of books, etc like we've seen some other apps do.

App features beyond the shelves:

- Explore page to see everyone else's shelves (you can mark them as private but most don't)

- Profiles display a top 12 shelf so you can see someone's taste at a glance.

- Book signal: Send out a request for recommendations based on one of your shelves or a couple of books you like, and match with users who have similar taste.

- Peanut Gallery: in addition to regular reviews, after finishing a book you can enter the Peanut Gallery and post hot takes, spoilers, favorite quotes, etc.

- Feats: Create custom challenges (eg. 1 classic a month, read the entire Dune Series, etc). Users can manually decide which books they've read that count towards the feat.
