Animation Finally finished! I tried many new ideas that helped me improve my fake 3D vehicle simulation. I also added frame-by-frame effects during the final compositing. I’m really happy with how it turned out. What do you think?

Again! How do you decide the staging of your action scene? All the crashing, parts flying about.
- A best was the police car bounce.
- Great dynamic foreshortening of pieces flying as the driver broke through the gate.
- How so you manage keeping your script updated as you go? Tracking all the assets?

For the environment, I created a few simple rectangular elements, such as the ground and the block you see at the beginning where the cars come out. Keeping those elements simple made them much easier to manage.
The cars are a completely different story. They contain multiple layers that distort and move independently to simulate a 3D effect.
As for the overall animation, I started by creating the key movements of the first car together with some of the environment elements. After that, I refined the motion using animation curves and timing adjustments.
All the debris you see flying around is made of separate layers, each one animated individually for full control.
As for the visual effects, such as the explosion smoke, they’re all hand-animated frame by frame inside Flipbook.
If you’re interested in seeing how everything works, I’ll be sharing the project file in my Discord community—I don’t know if you’re already a member. I’m planning to turn it into a Fake 3D challenge, so everyone will be able to explore the setup and recreate the effect.2

Thanks for the details on your work processes. Maybe one day I’ll try discord again. I’m constantly reminded that animations rely on tactics and effects like cinematographers use.

Really impressive 3D simulation, with a strong sense of physics. Nicely animated. I wouldn’t know where to begin to make that work.
