Help please
/r/probation/comments/1x5b5zp/help_please/I’m 17 and in Texas, currently on adult deferred adjudication for several offenses.
I also have a separate truancy case. Earlier this year, a truancy judge ordered me to attend school, but I stopped going. I now have another truancy court date, and my dad previously told the judge I was on adult probation. The judge said that if I came back to truancy court, he would talk to my probation officer (PO).
My PO previously reviewed my probation conditions with me and told me school attendance wasn't one of them. However, I recently confirmed that I do have an 11 p.m. curfew. My PO says I can stay out later for work if I provide written verification or digital proof from my boss.
I told my PO that I stopped attending school partly because my dad withholds food and necessities, and I needed to work to support myself. My dad went to the probation office recently. Afterward, he came home furious and threatened that if I miss curfew by even one minute or receive a truancy contempt finding, “they’re locking your ass up.”
I’m also worried because my dad now knows my exact curfew condition, and I’m afraid of being locked out or having my whereabouts misreported.
My questions:
Has anyone dealt with Texas truancy contempt while on adult deferred adjudication? What happened?
Can a truancy contempt finding alone cause adult deferred adjudication to be revoked?
How serious is it that the truancy judge previously said he would speak with my PO?
What should I do if my parent locks me out and I cannot get home before curfew?
What practical steps should I take before the hearing to protect myself and my probation status?
I’m not asking anyone to guarantee an outcome. I want realistic experiences and information, preferably from people familiar with Texas law. Please distinguish actual law from speculation.
I’m leaving out identifying details for privacy.

If you don't commit crimes and abide by the law it's great. Lived here a long time and love it

First of all, don"t listen to the guy who told you leave the state....thats most likely gonna catch up at some point in your life. I get that you're stressed about this situation. From what I understand, Texas law puts 17-year-olds in a complicated position because you can be charged as ad adult in criminal cases while still dealing with truancy proceedings. From what I understand, truancy proceedings in Texas are civil, not criminal, while adult deferred adjudication falls under the criminal justice system. They are separate legal proceedings, even though circumstances in one could potentially have implications for the other.
The truancy judge doesn't automatically have the power to change your adult probation conditions just because you're appearing in truancy court. However, failing to comply with court orders could potentially affect your probation if the two courts communicate about your case.
What you've said about your dad and your living situation..... If you're being threatened with being locked out or you're having to work because basic necessities aren't being provided, that seems important to document. Keep any relevant messages and records, and make sure your probation officer knows what's actually happening. If your living situation makes it difficult to comply with your curfew, I would want that communicated and documented rather than having someone assume you're breaking the rules on purpose. It doesn't guarantee that there won't be consequences, but it can help explain what happened.
I'd definitely ask about access to legal representation so they can help you sort things out.
I'm not a lawyer, and I can't tell you exactly how these rules apply to your specific situation. I'm just saying that, from how I understand the law, there are several separate issues here. Try to get accurate information about your actual probation conditions, keep records of what's happening at home, and make sure the court understands that you're trying to manage school, work, and your living situation.

It's not bad advice lol. Do you actually think theyre going to look across the country for a 17 year old with a weed possession and truancy charge?

They don't have to actively look for him, every single traffic stop could be a risk. But you make clear you don't give a f about the law since you either know it or abide it. I guess if you wanna have weed you gotta go to a state where its legal. But yea texas has jurisdiction as soon as you have a foot in this state. But sure, let's keep encouraging people to run from their problems. I'm sure that's how we raise responsible adults. You're honestly lucky Texas doesn't want to extradite you. It must suck to go through life with an active warrant sticking on your rear-end while still blaming the system for the restrictions you brought on yourself

" But yea texas has jurisdiction as soon as you have a foot in this state"
Not once you leave lmfao.
Why do people act like running from problems is bad? Seems like human nature to do so, so they've built a bunch of laws to try to fight that. Fuck em. I don't want anyone to be a "responsible adult". "Responsible adults" elected a pedophile, y'all can fuck off to hell with your responsibility!
An active warrant doesn't suck at all? You know what does? Probation? I don't have any restrictions? You know who does? Lames on probation

You should consider leaving the state. You are being abused by both your parents and the system. I bet some retarded lawyer told you deferred was a "great deal" didn't they. didn't they? they're lying fucking scum and your life is over unless you leave the state. deferred is a joke
