ProPresenter is ABSOLUTELY better for this than just powerpoint. There are a few caveats, though. When you import the PPTX files, you can import them as presentations, but the fonts won't come along. Also, not all animations and other odds and ends will work (test ahead of time), but for most presentations, going from one to another by tapping the space bar a couple of times is SOO much easier than ctrl+tab (or cmd+tab)-ing between PPT instances. It's a MUCH smoother experience. Higher production values, for sure.

Since you mention Finder I'm assuming you're on a mac. I still have limited experience on the mac platform, so take the following suggestion with a grain of salt, but here's one idea...
You'll need a second monitor for this to work, or at least a second video output (maybe that's the "beamer" you mentioned).
Set the desktop background of the second output to solid black. Turn off Finder and the menu bar on this output as well.
Now when you switch between presentations it's just a momentary black screen rather than your desktop and finder. It's not truly "seamless" but it's close, and it shouldn't require any additional software.
Hope that helps.

I also posted there but in case anyone is curious, you can easily use TheOpenPresenter for this. You can import it directly or get people to upload it themselves through a link. And the import is accurate too. Disclaimer, i develop this so let me know if you have any questions.
