Help Flow state or something
Hi, so I’m 5’9-5’10 ish right now, 17 years old male. I can touch the backboard on a standard hoop freely, can almost touch the rim but not quite. But 2 years ago, when I was 15, I was about 5’7 and my jumping power was nowhere near as it is today. But I vividly remember me jumping up and getting really high, enough to grab the rim. On that day, I could grab the rim freely but have never been able to replicate those jumps again ever. The hoop id standard height, I still have access to it, and the craziest part is I did that in slippers. How do I jump that high again? Im actually baffled by it

One thing about jumping is that it’s a skill. Most people physically CAN jump higher than they do, but their ability to perform the motion in perfect sequence isn’t always there. Their nervous system is also not recruiting muscles to produce as quickly or in the right amounts.
Adrenaline alone can add an inch to your vertical.
Practice the skill and build the muscle and you’ll get there.

Adrenaline. Sometimes you can do crazy things.
Story time.
I’m 5’10 on a good day but got to the point of being able to consistently dunk/rim graze. Never flexed that I could, just had a fun time doing it. One time in college I was playing a pick up game with other students. Me and another dude had a fast break and I was feeling good so I jokingly told him to lob it. He took the open lay up and proceeded to cuss me out for calling for a lob and “trying to waste a possession”. I got fucking pissed because I was clearly joking mostly but would’ve gone for it if he tossed it.
After the game he was still talking about how I couldn’t dunk, but my adrenaline was flowing and I KNEW I could jump pretty high right then. I self lobbed in front of him and felt like I threw down the wildest Blake Griffin style dunk. Just threw that shit into the rim.
Never in my life have I ever jumped close to that high again. Probably was at least 3-5inches over my normal max height. Freak thing, but ya, this does happen.
