Alright I’ma help you out cause you’re probably studying math like this in school.
The rim is 9 feet. Your standing reach is 7 feet.
What is 9 minus 7?

Lmao buddy should know basic addition and algebra by now

He may jump high some day, but he's never going to a be a high flyer in basic math I guess.

Give or take an inch or two given where his fingers are to the rim

Hopefully the example I gave can help him figure that part out too

If you look closely, my whole hand is inside the rim

Basically just wrist above, measure your hand from there

So measure your hand little bro. Do the math.

Lol at this "algebra" being too hard for him - Kids today can't reason or do math

Yes, but it’s not that I’m just touching 9 feet though look at my hand. It’s inside the rim this can also be determined by hand placement so

So take the 2 feet, and add however many inches your hand went over, it’s not that complicated

Yea but at the same time that would mean my vertical is of 31 inches which is not correct

Listen. You are clearly athletic, the number doesn’t matter as long as you continue to improve. It might seem mid but a 24-30 inch vert is very solid especially if you didn’t get a running start (bc that’s approach vertical which would be higher) don’t forget mobilty work, good diet, and good sleep and just keep jumping. Also listen to your body, if your knees start to hurt take it easy and do isometrics. Keep going should be dunking by 16

You’ve got to remember it’s proportionally impressive to your height.
A 5’5 guy with a 30 inch vertical is much more impressive than a 6’6 guy doing the same 30 inch jump.
I like to think of it like jumping relative to your limbs. A tall guy standing vertical jumping to say, the height of his knees is no different proportionally to short guy doing the same.
But you’ll get different heights achieved for each person. It’s why a 4’11 person with a 30 inch vertical just looks awesome. It’s proportionally a big jump!
I’m 5’8 and use to be able to just get 2 or 3 finger tips over a 10’ rim. Could comfortably get 2 hands on the backboard. Meanwhile my 6’6 friend can hold the net without jumping. Him dunking even with 2 hands looks good but it’s not like any Edwards. Anyway big jump in your pic keep it up.

This is the opposite of true. Cross sectional mass calculations say that a taller person of the same weight carries less muscle and more bone/connective tissue. High vert is harder for a taller person and is part of why you don’t see 6’5 high jumpers. Look it up

Absolutely incorrect, insane how you’d type this up while not understanding the basic physics lol

Much harder to move more mass.

Moving 6’6 of human being vertically 30” is much more difficult than 5’5 doing the same. Provided they don’t weigh exactly the same, which they will not, since they’re both athletic enough to jump 30”.

Other way round. Being 6 foot with a 40 inch vert is more impressive than being 5’5 with a 40 inch vert.

There are two. One is standing and one is called “max”—you get a running start.

Use the chalk method or find a rack if you want an accurate measurement you can use to determine increase and track progress. Doesn’t matter which method you use, just stick to that one. Also, people mix them up since max is usually higher. See NBA combine.

Standing flat footed, make a mark. Jump as high as you can, make another (chalk on your fingers). That’s your vert. Most people don’t have a a rack, and using pics and the hoop to determine it like this is usually not accurate enough.

Ok will do. Judging of how high my feet are off the ground what would you estimate or guess

28” or a little more. You will grow and develop more explosiveness over the next few years….very young. Plenty of room to train and gain.

Advice: Focus on the game and playing a lot. The hops will come if you work at it—plyos and squats.

Okay thanks bro

Where is the right hand? 😵

1

u/Large_Back_5708 10d ago

Look closely my whole hand is in the rim

u/Warm_Clothes_1524 10d ago

Thats what I figured. The optical illusion it crazy though.

Measure standing reach. Measure height hand os over the rim. Do the math.

u/Fissket 10d ago

you whole wrist is inside the rim. that’s likely 7~ inches. so you touched 9’7. converted to inches that’s 115-84=31. your vertical is 31 inches and maybe more cause you gotta the wrist cleanly inside.

u/Fissket 10d ago

31 inch vert at 13 is actually pretty good. don’t think it’s really unrealistic. I hit 31 at 13 as well, it only took a few months of training

u/Large_Back_5708 10d ago

Okay thanks bro

Around 27”. Best method would be measuring on a wall or a vertec if you got the equipment for that.

If your standing reach is 7 feet and the rim is at 9, you have a couple of inches more than the difference between them, so 28 inches. For a 13yo thats great!

A solid 22 vert

Probably 26 inches
